CommissionerDr. Amandeep Kaur Appeals to Residents to Actively Participate in the State-Level Campaign

Hoshiapur, 16 August: (TTT) The Punjab government is set to launch a state-level special cleanliness campaign from August 19 to 23, during which the Municipal Corporation Hoshiarpurwill initiate a week-long special drive across the city to eliminate Garbage Vulnerable Points (GVPs) and promote sustainable waste management. The campaign, scheduled to run from August 19 to 23, aims not only to make the city cleaner but also to raise awareness among the residents through various activities.

Providing more details, the Municipal Commissioner mentioned that the campaign will begin with the removal and beautification of existing GVPs in the city on August 19 and 20. Additionally, warning boards will be installed at the cleared GVP sites, and a monitoring system will be established with the help of local residents to ensure that no one dumps waste there in the future.

On August 21 and 22, dry waste, particularly plastic bottles, cane, and bags, will be collected from roads, streets, green belts, public areas, etc., and transported to MRF (Material Recovery Facilities) centres. The plastic waste will be baled and sold for recycling.

On August 23, organic compost made from wet waste at various composting centers in the city will be distributed to the residents through camps organized by the corporation, both in urban and rural areas.

The Municipal Commissioner also urged the city residents to actively participate in this five-day campaign. He encouraged them to get in touch with their area’s sanitary inspectors, facilitators, and motivators working under the Swachh Bharat Mission to learn more about the campaign and ensure their involvement. He further requested that if residents notice any GVPs near their homes, they should immediately inform the Municipal Corporation or use the M-Seva app to report them, so that the waste can be removed promptly
