The Deputy Commissioner praised the civil and police officials for receiving the Best Performing District Award for District Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar (Nawanshahr) for the activities done. Meanwhile, during a simple function held at the district administrative complex, Deputy Commissioner Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa said that the district has received this award due to the hard work of civil and police administration officials. On this occasion, SSP Dr. Mehtab Singh was also present.

Deputy Commissioner Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa said that during the event held on June 30 in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, State Home Minister Mr. Nityanand Rai ji and the Chairperson of National Child Rights Commission, New Delhi, Mr. Priyank, SDM. Nawanshahr Akshita Gupta, Assistant Commissioner General Gurleen Kaur and District Child Protection Officer Kanchan Arora were honored with the Best Performing Award for District Nawanshahr.

Expressing his happiness, he said that the above joint action plan is being implemented in the district for the last three years and the Education Department, Health Department, Child Protection Department, Excise Department, Child Welfare Committee are working together to implement this action plan. , the District Drug Control Authority as well as the Police Department have contributed and maximum activities have been done to prevent drug abuse among children in District Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, due to which District Nawan Shahr has been declared the Best Performing District. . He said that the District Magistrate has ordered all medical/pharmacy shops in the district under Section 133 of CrPC not to sell drugs under Schedule XH and H1 to children below 18 years of age and all medical / CCTV cameras should be installed in pharmacy shops, due to which CCTV cameras have been installed in about 195 shops in the district and more than 498 shops have been inspected. The Education Department has formed 106 Prevention Clubs in secondary schools which conduct various activities (such as painting competitions, song competitions, elocution competitions and rallies) to keep children away from drugs. 2544 activities have been conducted in schools during the last two years by the anti-drug clubs and about 32 training programs have been conducted by the police department. In the last two years, 183 awareness programs have been conducted by the District Child Protection Department to ensure the safety of children and to keep children away from drug abuse while implementing the action plan as per above and child protection has been formed at the village and block level. Committees have also conducted street plays to prevent drug abuse among children and 150 awareness camps have been organized by the District Social Security Office so that maximum number of people can be made aware in this regard. There is no sale of drugs or alcohol within 100 meters of all government schools under the district.

Meanwhile, SSP Dr. Mehtab Singh said that the police department is working strictly to stop drugs. About 70 were processed under the NDPS Act by cutting leaflets. Strict action is being taken against drug sellers, youth are being encouraged to stay away from drugs by holding cricket matches and bicycle rallies. From time to time, the youth has been made aware about the ill effects of drugs by conducting plays and other programs in schools and colleges. He said that about 193 seminars held by the department can also keep the youth away from drugs.

In this regard, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr. Rajeev Verma (PCS) said that all the departments have contributed in implementing this action plan for the protection of children and drug prevention among children, which is commendable and It is a matter of pride for us that the district has been declared the best performing district by the commission, so all the departments should contribute in the same way to ensure the safety of the needy and helpless children in the coming future.
