Hoshiarpur Gears Up for Panchayat Polls with 1683 Polling Booths, Over 2730 Sarpanch Candidates

(TTT)The District Administration of Hoshiarpur has made comprehensive arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of panchayats elections across the district. A total of 1683 polling booths have been set up, with polling scheduled to take place from 8 AM to 4 PM on Tuesday. Over 10,000 polling staff have been deployed to manage the elections and ensure a free and fair voting process.

Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Komal Mittal, along with Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Surendra Lamba, held a detailed dispatch briefing for polling staff at Pandit J.R. Polytechnic College and other locations, reviewing all final preparations. Both officials emphasized the importance of adhering to election protocols and ensuring peaceful elections.

The panchayat elections will see a total of 2730 candidates contesting for the position of Sarpanch, while 6751 candidates will be running for the Panches in various villages across the district. The Deputy Commissioner urged voters to arrive at their polling stations in a timely manner to cast their votes smoothly.

Hoshiarpur has 1405 gram panchayats, 8041 wards, and a total of 989,093 registered voters for the upcoming election. Deputy Commissioner Mittal also mentioned that 265 panchayats in the district have already elected their representatives unanimously.

Regarding security measures, SSP Surendra Lamba highlighted that more than 3500 police officers have been deployed across the district to maintain law and order during the elections. Additionally, 65 patrolling teams, 14 DSPs, and four Superintendents of Police will monitor the situation, with heightened security at sensitive and hyper-sensitive polling stations.

The administration reminded voters to carry valid identity proof such as Aadhaar Card, Voter Card, PAN Card, Passport, MGNREGA Job Card, Driving License, Ration Card, Bank or Post Office passbook, or any government-issued service ID while casting their votes.
