PAU-KVK Hoshiarpur organizes village level awareness camp on paddy residue management at village Thinda
Hoshiarpur/Daljeet Ajnoha/Sept.7(TTT) PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bahowal, Hoshiarpur organized a village level awareness camp on paddy residue management at adopted village Thinda on 4th September, 2024.
Dr. Maninder Singh Bons, Associate Director (Training), KVK Hoshiarpur, while welcoming the farmers, urged them to shun residue burning for safeguarding the environment. He also informed that as in previous years, this year also KVK Hoshiarpur is organizing a campaign for managing paddy residue through awareness camps, trainings, demonstrations, hoardings, wall paintings and literature distribution. Dr. Bons also highlighted harmful effects of burning of crop residue burning and exhorted the farmers to successfully pursue the noble cause of non-burning of paddy residue in campaign mode. He also informed that custom hiring centers on paddy residue machinery have been formed in the block and laid stress on need of custom hiring and cooperative basis for proper utilization of paddy residue machineries On this occasion experts from KVK Hoshiarpur – Dr. Ajaib Singh, Assistant Professor (Agricultural Engineering) and Dr. Parminder Singh, Associate Professor (Animal Science), addressed the farmers regarding different nutrients available in paddy residue and need for their preservation, various in-situ and ex-situ residue management technologies for the effective management of paddy residue, use of paddy straw in mushroom cultivation, paddy straw based biogas plant, for bio char, as mulch and as fodder and seasonal management of dairy animals.Progressive farmers of the village, S. Onkar Singh, S. Mewa Singh, S. Gurpal Singh, S. Sarwinder Singh, Master Gurpal Singh, S. Mandeep Singh, S. Baljit Singh, S. Manjit Singh, S. Inderpal Singh, S. Mahinder Singh Nagra, S. Jagjit Singh, S. Dalwinder Singh, etc., were present on this occasion.For the benefit of the farmers, sale of seed of toria, vegetable seed kits, mineral mixture, uromin lick was arranged and literature was also provided.In the end, S. Kulvir Singh, Sarpanch of the village thanked all the experts and farmers and assured all support for carrying out various extension activities to curb the practice of crop residue burning.
