Hoshiarpur organized a kisan goshthi on sesame cultivation under cluster frontline demonstrations at village Dadial in block Dasuya on 1st July, 2024.(TTT) At the outset, Dr. Maninder Singh Bons, Associate Director (Training), KVK Hoshiarpur, discussed about the purpose of the cluster frontline demonstrations on sesame crop and gave a detailed account of the recommended cultivation practices, nutrient and pest management regarding the sesame variety, Punjab Til No. 2. He also said sowing of the crop should be done during first fortnight of July as early sown crop is more prone to the attack of phyllody disease. Dr. Bons also added that the phyllody infected plants should be removed time to time and buried in soil to check further spread of the disease. To avoid shattering of seeds harvesting of the crop should be done immediately when plants turn yellow and capsules have just opened.
KVK and FASC Hoshiarpur experts- Dr. Rakesh Sharma, District Extension Scientist (Entomology), Dr. Indira Devi, District Extension Scientist (Fruit Science) and Dr. Prabhjot Kaur, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection) also addressed the farmers regarding integrated pest management in kharif crops, fruits & vegetables and fruit nutrition gardening.
On this occasion, seed of sesame and PAU literature was provided to the farmers for the conduct of demonstrations and soil sampling of demonstration plots was also carried out.
